Why you won't be able to move through not knowing what to do in the middle of a session until you shift your feelings towards the situation when that happens..
A good way to think of it is that everything is going to fall into the category of hate or love. If I don’t love something then I have less than love for it. Yes, you could say that there’s a sliding scale, but at some point if I don’t love it completely then there’s going to be some hate, frustration, anger, or resentment involved.
So if I get stuck in the middle of a session, and for example, feelings of hate and shame (there can be a whole lot more) come up, that means getting stuck equals hate and shame. It’s like math. They are equal. So when I do get it, when I move through a session easily, what’s on this side of the equation? Something like, “Wow, I love it and I’m really proud of myself. I’m really proud of my coaching skills.”.
So if I hold on to the frustration and hate that comes with drawing a blank or getting stuck, then it’ll keep producing this situation of getting stuck over and over again. On the other hand, if I can make drawing a blank in a session OK and move back into love, that equals getting it or working through it easily with my client.
